Anivin de France is delighted to announce that 173 medal-winning Vin De France (VDF) wines have been selected as ambassador wines for 2024 following this year’s tasting. Some 577 wines were entered from a total of 111 French wine businesses, with 59 companies winning a medal. This the largest number of wines ever tasted in the annual competition.

The 173 winning wines were split into two categories: 77 gold medals (45%); and 96 silver medals (55%). Last year 48 gold medals were awarded out of a total 146 medals (33%). The total number of award-winning wines amounts to 30% of the samples entered, the standard set by the OIV (Organisation Internationale de la Vigne et du Vin) which is respected in the judging process.

The wines were chosen in Paris earlier this month at a blind tasting by 62 international wine buyers and oenologists. It was moderated by members of the OEnologues de France. Feedback from the jury on the wines was very positive, with many praising the quality and relevance of the wines for their market.

The judges also commented on the diversity of styles presented: from ‘international’ varietal wines expressing great typicity; to more innovative blends and styles including natural sparkling and orange wines. Stand out non-international varieties included Sauvignon Gris, Mourvèdre, Braucol, Marselan, Macabeo and Colombard.

Medal winning wines will be featured at ProWein (Germany) on Anivin de France’s stand, Hall 10 G30, and APAS (Brazil) in May. An email burst featuring the award winners will be sent to over 10,000 international buyers.

In total, 326 million bottles of VDF wines were sold in 2023, 40% of all the wines in France, and 60% on export markets – some 197 million bottles exported.

Some of the most exciting and strategic markets are the USA, UK, Australia, Sweden, and many other western countries. But VDF is also becoming popular in newer markets in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.

The UK continues to be a major export market, ranking second in volume, with 25 million of equivalent 75cl bottles sold*.

Today VDF wines account for around 14% in volume of all French exports of still wines. There are many styles of wines under the VDF umbrella: not only varietal wines which is the strongest segment, but also orange wines, sustainable wines, resistant varieties and lower alcohol.
